Our first large race this summer will be the first ever “international” Ragnar – the race is actually named the Ontario Ragnar; it starts in Coburg, ON, follows the northern and western side of Lake Ontario, and finishes up at Niagara Falls! Although we aren’t running this as an ultra team, we have kept the team size to 7 so that we can still fit in one van and get a decent amount of miles. &n
Let’s start things off with a bang! For the first race of 2013, I came in 3rd overall (and 3rd in the men’s “division”) while Jeney took things up a notch and came in 1st in the women’s! Ok, now to bring this back down to reality – we did do a race, but it wasn’t exactly super competitive. We are currently in Providence, RI, for the SVC convention and signed up for the 5k fun
After a pretty intense summer and fall of running, which included an ultra Ragnar relay and a full marathon, we have definitely had a tough winter – several missed weeks of exercise and the general malaise that comes with a cold winter. Jeney, as mentioned here, has had some issues with her knees but as of this last weekend is able to run 5 miles! I’m just getting into the swing of things again and getting moti
Well, I did it. I ran 5 miles! To be honest (and I know you are holding me accountable), I shouldn’t have run the last half mile (uphill and will an awareness of my knee). But that being said, I ran the most I’ve be able to since October. The weather was bleak, cold (in the low twenties) and snowy (stab me in the eye with floating ice crystals). It still was a fantastic run. I had a goofy grin stretching
As promised, I’m here to update you on the recovery portion of my marathon injury! As a quick refresher: I ran a marathon and managed to injure my knees pretty badly. I took a week off from running (at least more than a mile), but when I tried to run an “easy” six mile run a week after the marathon, I was confronted with a serious issue. I ran about 2 miles before I literally could not move my legs
For three years the Annihilation Operators (FKA Bad News Bears) have battled ferociously against the intramural-referee-populated (is that even fair?!?!) Llamas Going Bananas. But this year, THIS YEAR, we conquered the mighty incumbent pigskin-launching Llamas. The game was not without its usual high-tension drama, from both sides. Tempers went red on both sides. Their quarterback was a slippery catch, and the
It seems to have been a bit since I’ve last blogged. Goodness gracious that will not do! :/ As Adam mentioned earlier, we completed our first marathon! He did a wonderful job describing the before and after marathon-ness, and hinted that I might share my story. So here goes… My goal was to run the marathon in less than four hours, which would put me at an average 9:10 pace. This is a little slower than I
I beat Jeney home by about half an hour yesterday and wanted to get something going for dinner. I had picked up a good Malbec on the way home, but figured we would have something at home so a trip to the grocery store wasn’t really necessary. And then I got home. And stared at the cabinets, refrigerator, and various other hiding places of food stuffs. It was one of those “hmmm…we don’t have an
Last weekend we headed northeast on a 6 hour drive to the town of South Hero, VT for the Green Mountain Marathon. Unlike it’s namesake, the area is incredibly flat and turned out to be a beautiful but adventurous route. We drove up with a friend of ours the night before and finished up our pre-registration – the school that served as the starting line even had a spaghetti dinner being served by the 7th an
